eat your heart out, martha! the education issue

this zine taught me so much. it is one of those zines where you learn something completely new, and get to know somebody's life in terms of something that you have never even considered before. it is a real eyeopener, and "the education issue" is the perfect example of this kind of zine.

it is written by candyce who is homeschools her 10 year old son kyle. it is a black and white half-size zine, fairly text dense and includes quite a few photos. the whole zine is about why she homeschools kyle and how she does it. is is truly fascinating. candyce knows her facts and clearly cares a great deal about her son's education which i found very endearing. the driving force of this zine is really why she chose to take her son out of school and why she considers teaching him herself a better option. she is not arrogant about this choice. there is no pushiness in her voice, i found candyce to be humble and diplomatic which earnt her my respect. it would be so easy to be defensive about a topic like this, but she isn't.

there is so much to mention about this zine (it is like a small book!) but i will just highlight one of my favourite parts: she shares with the reader and email she received and her response. it was interesting to hear what candyce had to say when she came up against criticism (i was very impressed). all in all this a professional zine by a devoted mother.
