"inception" is a zine full of writings, pictures, collages, quotes, journal entries, and anything which vickie felt would describe the experience of her nervous breakdown, life-long depression, and eventual diagnosis of bipolar disorder. it is a pandora's box of vickie's mind as a woman who struggles with her mood and self. there is so much to look at and take in as you read this zine.
i cannot ignore how talented vickie is. she has a gift for collage and for using text and typeface perfectly together. "inception" has a couple of colour pictures and is hand-sewn with beautiful sparkly thread. each page bounces from style to style, the tone is constantly changing and yet never strays from the intent. vickie has captured the theme of her zine perfectly- her style in "inception" is manic, all over the place, busy, continual.
i love "inception". when i read it i felt as i was observing vickie on paper, watching her mood fluctuate, watching her mind experience her world. so many different styles are incorporated into this zine, you cannot fail to be mesmerised.
