there are 12 issues of the pleiades and after seeing it being spoken of so highly by various websites and friends i ordered #10. i picked it literally at random, i am sure i'll go on to order #11 very shortly!
#10 is like a small book. it is largely writings by miranda on various topics- the most memorable being an introspective piece on a toxic relationship which lasted 5 years. i was completely engrossed reading this zine; i wanted it to be a full-length novel. her writing style is clear, emotive and has a story-telling aspect which makes you feel extremely involved. miranda also writes about her lolita complex, self-harming and sexuality. she turns her experiences into fascinating tales, effortlessly making everything intense and interesting.
something which i consider to be very important is a zine is the degree to which you feel that you know the person you are reading about. after reading the pleiades #10 i felt as if i knew miranda's personality, i wanted to talk to her, to find out more. through her writing she turns herself into this wonderfully fiesty and sensitive character- this characterisation adds to the bookish feel that the zine carries. #10 is a high quality zine and i enjoyed it to the extent that i was writing down quotes from it, as i do with novels, and wanting to share them with people because the descriptions are so much more vivid than i can i create myself. outstanding!
