revivre, summer 2004

#2 of particula is more text-dense than #1- its main focus is on the sexual abuse which vickie suffered as a young girl. she combines colour images, collages, song lyrics, information about who vickie is now and one of my favourite parts; livejournal entries which follow the creation of "revivre". as a reader including these snippets makes the journey to creating this zine even more authentic.

even though this zine is full of interesting pages, including why she has a fascination with sylvia plath's works and one about medications which she has taken/takes, the bulk of this zine is the shocking truth of the abuse that vickie endured. she writes with slight fear and disbelief at the events, but the vital thing to remember is that vickie is giving herself a voice after years. the text is peppered with small pieces of mental dialogue which annotates the story as you read it, giving it a particularly harrowing edge.

as intense as this zine is, it is definitely worth reading. vickie's style sucks you in, and i was impressed at how consistently talented she is. i cannot wait to get my hands on the next full-sized issue of "particula"- i am certain it'll be a treat!

how to order:
there is info on the particula livejournal about how to order each of the issues.
